ROAR Response to Racial Trauma
This course is designed for professionals who want to deepen their understanding of the impact of racial trauma on children and young people’s mental health.
It invites participants to reflect on the role we all play in being allies—encouraging honesty, curiosity, and open conversations that centre listening to collective voices. You’ll develop a framework to support allyship at a personal, interpersonal, and structural level across the school community, while exploring ways to build resilience and create a lasting platform for change.
About this course
Delivered by the MYA RAISE Team, this course creates a reflective, safe space to raise awareness and understanding of racial trauma through open discussion and thoughtful, reflective activities.
Across six modules, you’ll explore how to create safe environments where young people can acknowledge and discuss racism and racial trauma, while examining the complexities of language, identity, and lived experience. The course also focuses on understanding the effects of oppression and trauma, encouraging self-reflection through the social graces model, and supporting young people’s resilience and growth.
