ROAR Response to Racial Trauma

This course is for professionals who want to learn more about the impact of racial trauma on children and young people’s mental health.

To consider the role we all play in being an ally to others whilst being honest and curious to have open conversations to learn and listen to a collective voice. To develop a framework that supports the practice of Allyship on a personal, interpersonal and structural level across the school community. Exploring ways of building resilience to establish an ongoing platform for change.

About this course

Delivered by The MYA RAISE Team, this course is for professionals who want to learn more about the impact of racial trauma on children and young people’s mental health. We are inviting you to attend and create a reflective safe space to raise the awareness and understanding of Racial Trauma through conversations and honest, reflective activities. On the course we will guide you on how to do this via the following modules:

Module One:  Creating safety for young people in the context of Racism, where racial trauma can be acknowledged, voiced and visible. Reflecting on language and terminology.

Module Two: Racial Trauma – what do we mean? What can we see in our young people? What are we not seeing and failing to understand. Reflecting on the importance of relational and systematic reflection.

Module Three: Oppression – What is it? Recognising the social graces model.

Module Four: Allyship – What is it? How do we use our power of being an Ally?
